- REST - Proper amount of rest to fully recover your muscles and nervous system dramatically helps to improve your vertical jump and overall strength gains.
- Diet - Following a diet which replenishes your muscles at the right time is crucial for vertical jump development.
- Flexibility - The longer the muscle, the better your vertical jump training can produce results. Thing of your muscle as a rubber band. When you load into your jump, you have all this energy waiting to explode into the air. The more flexibility you have, the greater range of motion you will have to snap those muscles at full potential. This really benefits your plyometrics.
- Plyometrics - Plyometrics are critical in developing the perfect vertical jump. Plyometrics take advantage of the Stretch Shortening Cycle which will make you more "bouncy" for lack of a better word. Plyometrics also reduce ground contact time and can be used to build power or for speed purposes. Training your SSC will teach your muscles to rapidly contract. The quicker you can get your muscles to contract the higher your vertical jump is going to be.
- Weight Lifting - This really should be a necessity even though it's not absolutely necessary. Look at vertical jump training this way; The stronger and more powerful you are, the higher you ability to jump. Now, lifting alone will only do so much for your jump training... Same goes for plyometrics. The key to reaching your maximum jumping potential is to combine the two.
